Fall Tryouts

Cor Jesu students that plan on trying out for any sport at Cor Jesu must turn in the four page MSHSAA physical by July 15.  Fall Tryouts begin on August 7th.  The MWAA Conference has voted to start on August 7 instead of the MSHSAA start date of July 31.  On August 7th all sports tryout participants must check in at Cor Jesu in the gym lobby before going to the tryout.  This includes sports that participate off campus.  Check in will begin at 7 am.  Tryouts are a minimum of 3 days and are typically completed by Friday of the first week.  After tryouts are complete, practices continue Mondays – Fridays and some weekend days until the season is complete.  Athletes are expected to be at all practices and contest.  Any student athlete that makes a Cor Jesu team is required to attend a rules meeting with their parents each year.  The fall rules meeting for this school year will be Sunday, August 13 in the gym at 5:00 pm.  If you have any questions about a specific sport tryout, please contact the head coach or the Athletic Director, Liz Biedenstein, at

Cross Country

The Cor Jesu Cross Country team does not make “cuts.” Instead of “tryouts,” we will begin practicing on Monday, August 1. Please note that the Cor Jesu Cross Country team is not a running club, but a high school sport so a serious commitment is required even though no cuts are made. Retention on the team will be based on attitude, sportsmanship, effort, and reliability.  Make sure you are well hydrated when you come to practice and bring a water bottle.

Field Hockey

Field hockey provides a unique opportunity for high school girls.  It is a sport that very few girls play before high school, providing them with the opportunity to learn something new.  With having a freshmen team we have not had to cut freshmen.  That gives several girls the opportunity to play on a team in the fall, make new friends and get comfortable at Cor Jesu.  We recommend coming to the camp to try it out.
JV/V will tryout from 4:30-6:30 and Freshmen will tryout from 6:15-8:15.
  • Please bring a mouth guard, shin guards, tennis shoes, cleats and water bottle to all tryouts
  • Securely attach your last name to the back of your shirt or wear a shirt that already has your name on the back each day of tryouts.  The coaches prefer that you wear a white or light-colored shirt.
  • Freshman interested in trying out for the JV team should attend the JV tryouts.
  • You do not need to own a field hockey stick in order to try out for the field hockey team.  Sticks are available for use during the week of tryouts.

Golf Tryouts will be at 8 am Monday – Wednesday and 2:30 Thursday and Friday at Tapawingo.  Each participant should bring water in addition to clubs.  The girls trying out will play 9 holes.  (Check in in the gym lobby before going to the first day of tryouts.)

Softball tryouts will be at Affton Athletic Association from 3:00-5:00.  (Check in at Cor Jesu gym lobby on Aug 7 before going to AAA). Starting on Wednesday August 9 the teams will be split into Varsity and JV and practice start time may be adjusted.
Ashleigh King is the head varsity softball coach at CJ and invites all incoming freshmen interested in trying out or potentially being a part of the softball program to participate in summer softball activities with the current players. There is a camp for young athletes that the girls volunteer to lead stations and also open fields weekly or biweekly. If your daughter is at all interested in trying out for softball this fall please contact Coach King at and she will give you the summer dates of importance.

Tennis tryouts will be at Webster Rec Courts at Elm and Hwy 44 from 8-10 am Monday-Wednesday and   3-5 pm on Thursday and Friday.  Participants should have a racquet and a water bottle.  (Check in at Cor Jesu gym lobby before going to Webster – Check in will begin at 7:00 am).

Returning players will tryout Monday and Tuesday from 9 - 11 and freshmen will come from 11 am – 1 pm. Starting Wednesday the times will be 3:30 - 5:30 for returners and 5:30 to 7:30 for freshmen.    Girls may be shifted to the earlier or later tryout sessions as the week goes on.
