Congratulations to Mary Messina ’20 on receiving the Congressional Silver Medal

Senior Mary Messina was awarded the Congressional Silver Medal in January. Due to the COVID-19 virus, formal congressional recognition ceremonies are on hold, but we wanted to recognize Mary for this outstanding accomplishment.

To receive the medal, Mary completed 200 hours of volunteer service, 100 hours of personal development, 100 hours of physical fitness and an expedition or exploration experience. The Congressional Award Program offers young people ages 14-23 the opportunity to set a personal goal and achieve it. The program entails six levels of award recognition – Bronze, Silver and Gold Certificates, and Bronze, Silver and Gold Medals. Each level is cumulative with time spent on one award carried to the next level, with the Gold Medal serving as the highest honor the U.S. government can bestow upon youth. The Congressional Award aims to foster principles of good citizenship and equip the next generation of leaders. The program offers not only a superlative to include on resumes and college applications, but has a track record of making goal-setting and service to others a habit for the youth that earn the award.

Congratulations, Mary we’re very proud of you!
