Class Retreats

As part of Cor Jesu’s commitment to our students’ spiritual growth, each class has the opportunity to experience a class retreat.  These retreats offer rare opportunities to step back from everyday life and listen to God speaking through silence, reflection, and activities.  The class retreats, and especially the senior Kairos retreats, can be very special times for a person to look deeply at herself and her relationships with God and with other people.  All students are required to make an annual retreat.  The freshman, sophomore, and junior retreats are typically one day.  The Senior Kairos Retreats are three- and one-half days.

Freshman Retreat: Discovering the Truth in Ourselves

We all find ourselves in a new and very challenging environment, surrounded by people we don’t know and who don’t know us.  Who am I?  How do I see myself now?  Who is the person I am becoming?  Where am I going?  Who do I want to be?  This day revolves around the importance of more and more fully becoming the unique person God created each of us to be – regardless of the expectations, pressures, etc., of those around us.

Sophomore Retreat: Building Whole and Holy Relationships

This retreat engages the development of whole and holy relationships with God, self, and others. It fosters integration of personal experiences with the truth and realities of our faith, with an emphasis on prayer and authentic friendship.

Junior Retreat: Call and Cost

In the midst of deepening our relationships with ourselves, God and others, we are being called to be Christ’s hands for others.  What does it mean to be a disciple of Christ?  How is Christ calling me?  What is he asking me to do for him, with him, and for others?

Senior Kairos Retreat: Integrating Relationships with Self, Others & God

The Senior Kairos Retreat, a three- and one-half-day program, is an experience of Christian community with a series of talks given both by peers and by adults.  The themes of the days are:  Who am I?, Who is Jesus in my life?, Christ’s message for me, and Living the message of Christ.

Our God has always tried to make his love visible and incarnate as, indeed, he did in the person of Jesus Christ.  The talks of the Kairos program are grounded and centered around the revelation of God's love in our lives through all the persons and experiences of our days.  In accepting God's love and life, we have the responsibility for service in the Lord's name.  In this context the experience of prayer and the sacraments, growing self-awareness, and commitment to Christ allow the retreatant to live her faith in a meaningful way.

The LASTing Project

In addition, Cor Jesu’s motto of Sharing the Love of the Heart of Christ takes new life as each Junior begins her LASTing Project. The LASTing Project is Cor Jesu’s service-learning ministry of 40 hours to be completed as a culminating project following a semester of social-justice learning and in keeping with Catholic Social Teachings. Successful completion of the LASTing Project is a school graduation requirement administered by the Theology Department's junior and senior teachers.

The Sacred Heart Project

Each year, the freshman are asked to create their own personal piece using any form of art to show their vision of the Sacred Heart of Christ.  In their artwork, they include all five elements of the Sacred Heart - the flame, the cross, the heart, the thorns, and the wound.

As a community of faith, Cor Jesu creates an environment where each person feels welcomed and experiences God’s love. Taught in the charism and tradition of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Cor Jesu students embark upon a faith journey of discovery rooted in the Gospel and catechism of the Catholic Church.

Because We Are Catholic

As part of the Annual Catholic Appeal for 2020, Cor Jesu students were asked to create a video that tells the story of how Cor Jesu students serve "Because we are Catholic".  Thank you to Caitlin Reitz, Abigail Threlkeld, and Campbell Tiffin for putting together this special video that connects Cor Jesu's charism of sharing the love of the Heart of Christ with the vision of the Annual Catholic Appeal.
