After a well-earned holiday break, the Cor Jesu community kicks off the new year with one of our most spirited and meaningful traditions: Funderwear.

So what is it? Funderwear is an annual service and school spirit event that combines friendly competition, student leadership and direct support for our community partners. For more than 20 years, Cor Jesu Academy and St. Joseph’s Academy have gone head-to-head to collect new socks, underwear and sports bras for clients of St. Patrick Center, one of St. Louis’ largest providers of services to people experiencing homelessness.

These items may seem simple, but they are among the most requested and least donated necessities for individuals experiencing housing insecurity. This year, the need is even greater.

St. Patrick Center recently expanded its mobile shower program in partnership with the city, increasing the demand for adult underwear, socks and sports bras in all sizes and genders. Every item donated directly supports dignity, health and daily comfort for those they serve.

When and How to Participate

This year, the Funderwear collection runs Tuesday, Jan. 6, through Tuesday, Jan. 13, culminating in the rivalry basketball game at Maryville University.

How to give:

• Donate new adult underwear, socks, or sports bras. Collection boxes will be placed throughout the school.

• Prefer to give financially? Venmo donations are welcome so the Funderwear Committee can purchase needed items.

Funderwear is more than a donation drive. It is a long-standing tradition that reflects who we are. Over the past few years alone, Cor Jesu and St. Joe combined have collected more than 150,000 pairs of socks and underwear for St. Patrick Center.
