I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to write the charism for the beautiful month of October. Not only is this month dedicated to the Holy Rosary, but it is also a season of transformation. As the cool air arrives and the vibrant colors of autumn surround us, we are reminded of the breathtaking splendor of God’s creation and invited into a spirit of gratitude. October becomes both a celebration of beauty and a call for us to reflect on the ways God continually renews and strengthens us.

When I reflect on my own journey, my faith stands as the greatest gift, and I recognize how profoundly Cor Jesu has nurtured it. Cor Jesu has always been a special part of my life, beginning in my days as a student and continuing through the journeys of my five daughters, who also walked its halls. Among the many blessings I received there, one of the most lasting treasures is a short yet powerful prayer we recited at the beginning of each class: “Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place my trust in You.” Years later, when my daughters attended, they shared the same prayer before classes but added a second line: “Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place my trust in You. Sacred Heart of Jesus, I believe in Your love for me.” This prayer remains etched in my heart and in theirs, offering peace and comfort in every season of life. I often find myself repeating it throughout my day, and it continues to shape my faith while anchoring my family in trust and hope in the love of the Sacred Heart.

The charism, “sharing the love of the Heart of Christ,” has been my guide in daily life as a mother and as a special education teacher. At home, I have tried to root my family in the love and trust of the Sacred Heart, using this prayer to steady us in times of joy and in times of struggle. In the classroom, working with students who often needed extra patience, encouragement and understanding, I leaned on the love of the Sacred Heart to remind me that each child is seen as God sees them — with compassion, dignity and infinite worth. In both vocations, motherhood and teaching, the Sacred Heart of Jesus has not just been a prayer on my lips but a lived expression of love, trust and hope.

In today’s world, where challenges and uncertainties can feel overwhelming, this prayer serves as a gentle yet powerful reminder to surrender to God’s plan and rest in his love. To the young women of Cor Jesu, I encourage you to carry this prayer with you beyond the classroom — onto the playing field, into late-night study sessions and through the joys and trials of friendships and daily life. And to all of us, may it become a shield of comfort and a source of strength, reminding us that we are never alone when we place our trust in Jesus. For me, it has been an anchor. My prayer is that it may also anchor your spirit in the unwavering love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus — a love that is constant, powerful and everlasting. This is the love that we have learned to share and spread with our families and the world.
