Cor Jesu Academy Thanks Retirees

Cor Jesu will have nine faculty and staff members retiring at the end of the 2007-2008 school year. For the first time in its history, Cor Jesu is able to offer a Voluntary Early Retirement Program, which emerges from the mission and vision of CJ: affirming our teachers and all that they have shared with the CJ community and to recognize the years they have given to CJA. Some of the teachers retiring took advantage of this offer.

“Unexpected acts of kindness are the best surprises,” says Jane Laurentius.“Cor Jesu's administration has always been gracious to me in my years here, but the Early Retirement Program is a more gracious act than I could have imagined. I am very grateful.”

“I am happy that CJ is at a point in our history and in our growth that we are able to offer this program this year and express how grateful we are for all that these teachers have given to Catholic Education in general and to CJ in particular,” stated President Sr. Barbara Thomas, ASCJ.

These wonderful people have contributed much to CJ over their many years of service in the classrooms, the library and office. How grateful we are to them for their dedication to Catholic education, their friendship and their loyalty to Cor Jesu. Our many alumnae join us in gratitude for these incredible women:

Sr. Theodore Bollati, ASCJ is a staple at Cor Jesu, having served as the librarian for the past 32 years – the longest any Apostle of the Sacred Heart of Jesus has worked at Cor Jesu. Sr. Theodore has been transferred to Sacred Heart Manor in Hamden, CT, where she will continue to share her library expertise, as well as assist the older Sisters. Jean DeGroff has been part of the maintenance staff for 13 years. Her retirement plans include spending more time with her family and friends.

Bonnie Forster has taught Geometry and Pre-Calculus for the past 23 years at CJA. She plans to travel, work in her flower garden and play with her grandchild, who is due in just a few months. Veronica Hicks has taught algebra, geometry and extended algebra for the past 10 years at CJ. She and her husband plan to travel extensively. In addition, Veronica will begin private tutoring in the fall and plans to read more, cook and enjoy photography.

Jo Ellyn Hoffmann has served at Cor Jesu for the past 17 years, working as the assistant office manager. Her retirement plans include traveling, volunteering and spending time with family and friends. Jane Laurentius is best known for teaching English and American Studies. She has given Cor Jesu 20 of her 39 years of teaching secondary school English. She will enjoy her retirement by volunteering, reading, golfing, and fishing.

Mary Kaye Mooney has worked in many capacities at CJ for the past 22 years, most recently in the Development and School Offices creating publications and managing the database. She plans to travel, volunteer, play bridge and enjoy family and friends. Kathy O’Brien also has worn many hats at CJ for the past 10 years, including as library assistant and database manager. Her retirement plans include riding the tide and being spontaneous.

Alice Steiger has worked at CJ for the past 10 years as Sr. Theodore’s library assistant. She will enjoy spending time with her family and friends.
