Miracles DO Happen!
Cor Jesu Purchases Land to Double Size of Campus

Since 1965, when the school was built on its 13-acre tract on Gravois Road, each of Cor Jesu’s principals at various times tried to acquire the adjacent property that borders the school on the west from the Busch family. Thanks to the prayers of all our supporters and the tireless efforts of many people working behind the scenes, that goal has now become reality. As the Cor Jesu community prayed for and diligently worked toward a solution to one of the school’s greatest challenges in its 50-year history, Mother Clelia Merloni’s (foundress of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus) faith-filled wisdom, “Trust in God, and miracles will happen!” has infused the school community and has come to fruition.

On Wednesday, May 28, 2008, Cor Jesu Academy fulfilled a long-term quest to expand its campus by adding an additional six-acre plot that is bordered by Gravois Road on the north, the school’s existing property on the east and Grant’s Trail on the west. Erickson Retirement Communities also closed on the remaining 88 acres of the Grant’s Farm Manor property the same day. Erickson Retirement Communities will donate nine of those acres in the flood plain to Cor Jesu, which will be used for athletic fields. For Cor Jesu, the new land acquisition will result in an additional 15 acres, which will more than double the size of the campus.

“After many years of praying, hoping and negotiating, the 15 acres of additional land will be added to the Cor Jesu campus,” stated Cor Jesu President Sr. Barbara Thomas, ASCJ. “This day has long been anticipated, and we are most grateful to the entire Cor Jesu community for all the prayers, support, encouragement and loyalty to the mission of the school. This additional land will allow Cor Jesu to continue to provide a premier Catholic education to young women well into the future. With site planners, M+H, we have already begun to explore the many possibilities that will enhance CJ’s campus for generations to come.”

The Cor Jesu community has begun studying an expansion of facilities, which may include a new field house, student commons, chapel, additional parking and performance/athletic fields.
