As this year’s theme demonstrates, Cor
Jesu Academy’s chapter of National Honor Society strives to
improve the lives of others, guide peers, and push beyond
limits in the classroom. The members also work to uphold
the four pillars of NHS: service, leadership, character, and
scholarship.

Requirements
- Junior or Senior
- Consistently demonstrate commitments to the four pillars of NHS: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character
- Cumulative GPA of 3.500 or higher
- Willing to commit themselves to an active leadership and service role in the school and community
- Attend all meetings
- Participate in all mandatory activities
- Gain 10 points each semester

Point System
- The point system is a way to gauge how much service all Cor Jesu Academy National Honor Society members
are doing each semester. After completing an event, a member gains a designated amount of points.
For example, participating in a committee is worth two points. Each member must complete ten points for each
semester in order to remain a member. If this requirement is not met, the student will no longer be considered
a member of Cor Jesu Academy’s chapter of National Honor Society.

Application Process
- Apply second semester of sophomore or junior year
- Demonstrate leadership involvement in the school and community
- Actively participate in community service
- Exhibit impeccable character
- Complete the Application form

Activities and Committees In order to fulfill the requirement of gaining ten points per semester, the
National Honor Society Members Participate in the following activities and committees. For more information about the committees, feel free to contact the
NHS moderators with any questions pertaining to the event. In addition to the following activities,
National Honor Society members may earn points by participating in outside volunteer work for different
organizations.

Community Service |
- This committee seeks volunteer activities in the community and tries to enhance and better the lives of
the individuals they are serving.

Cor Jesu Tutoring |
- This committee assists the students of Cor Jesu Academy that need help with their studies. The NHS member and
student meet during studies until the student no longer needs help. For additional information, contact counselors.

Faculty/Staff Appreciation Week
|
- In order to honor the faculty and staff of Cor Jesu Academy, this committee designates a week to celebrate all
that the faculty and staff do.

Fall Blood Drive
|
- In the fall, this committee sets up a blood drive in which the students, faculty, and Cor Jesu
community can donate. This event is sponsored by the American Red Cross.

Food Drive |
- Every year, this committee organizes a food drive in order to collect food for the homeless and poor
in St. Louis.
|
|
Honors Assembly |
- During this event, sophomores and juniors are honored for their achievements of the past school year.
At this time, awards such as Honors and High Honors are presented to individuals in the student body.

Honors Convocation |
- This event honors the seniors for their achievements during their past four years at Cor Jesu
Academy.

Howard Park |
- On Cor Jesu’s half days, NHS members assist children with special needs.

Inductions |
- The purpose of this event is to welcome the new members of National Honor Society into Cor Jesu Academy’s
chapter.

International Institute |
- International Institute is an organization that has been helping immigrants and their families become
secure and successful Americans since 1919. When members go to this activity, they usually help with the
field trips which help new immigrants learn more about St. Louis. To find out fore about International

KIWI Trivia Night/House Renovating |
- KIWI is an organization that helps low-income families with children with disabilities. The trivia
night was an event where all the money raised was donated to KIWI. The house renovating was an event where
Cor Jesu’s NHS members and their fathers donated their time over the Thanksgiving Break to renovate the home
of a family in dire need.

Lemay Family and Child Center |
- Lemay Child and Family Center provides high quality early care and education for children and their
families in a nurturing environment. Since this center helps many low-income families who cannot afford to
pay tuition, they rely on volunteers to help bridge the gap between the needed services and the low fees
families can pay. Cor Jesu’s NHS members help by reading, doing activies, and playing with the
children.

Musical Sales |
- While the fall musical takes place, the members of this committee volunteer their time and sell snacks
and refreshments to the audience.
|
|
Open House |
- Cor Jesu’s open house is an event hosted by the National Honor Society. Every member of the club is
required to give tours and answer the questions of the visitors.
|
|
Sacred Heart Villa |
- Sacred Heart Villa, a school for young children, is directed by the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of
Jesus, similar to Cor Jesu Academy. While participating in this event, National Honor Society members help
out with many activities and play with the children.

Special School District Speaker Series |
- At this activity, members watch children with disabilities while their parents attend meetings with
different speakers. As a professional supervises the childcare, Cor Jesu girls play with the kids. If
members did not participate in this activity, the parents of the children would not be able to learn vital
information concerning how to raise a child with special needs.

Spring Blood Drive |
- In addition to the fall blood drive, there is also a spring blood drive sponsored by the American Red
Cross Association in which students, faculty, and the Cor Jesu community can again donate their blood.

|
St. Anthony’s Hospice |
- St. Anthony’s Hospice program is a nonprofit program for comprehensive end-of-life care for all
individuals without regard to race, religion, or financial situation. After school each Wednesday, National
Honor Society members go to St. Anthony’s Hospital, off of Tesson Ferry, to talk to the people and ease
their passage into the next stage of life.

St. Justin’s Tutoring |
- Every Monday after school, National Honor Society members go to St. Justin’s grade school on Eddie and
Park to tutor grade school students in subjects in which they need help.

St. Vincent DePaul |
- At St. Vincent DePaul Soup Kitchen in St. Louis City, Cor Jesu NHS members help with the soup kitchen
and serve meals to the homeless of St. Louis. This event is a great opportunity to treat the homeless with
the dignity they deserve.

Study-a-thon |
- At the end of both the first and second semesters, the National Honor Society members help the
underclassmen review and study for their exams in all of their subjects. These review sessions help the
freshman and sophomores relax and prepare better for their exams.

|
TASK (Team Activities for Special Kids) |
- TASK is a nonprofint, year-round instructional sports program that provides athletic and social
opportunities to kids with special needs. The purpose of this program is to help build sel-esteem and
skills in children with special needs. National Honor Society members who participate in this activity are
parries up with a child and help him or her play the sport of that session such as soccer, volleyball, or
bowling. TASK is run completely by volunteers, so it is important the Cor Jesu continues serving them.
