Sr. Theodore Bollati, ASCJ Library

Cor Jesu Library awarded We the People Bookshelf Collection
from National Endowment for the Humanities

The Library of Cor Jesu Academy has been selected by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the American Library Association (ALA) to receive the 2010 We the People Bookshelf. The theme of this year’s Bookshelf is “A More Perfect Union.”

Application was made for the grant earlier this year. The award is part of the NEH’s We the People initiative, which supports projects that strengthen the teaching, study and understanding of American history and culture. The program encourages young people to read and understand great literature, while exploring themes in American history. Selected public and school libraries in all 50 states are each receiving the set of 17 books, bonus materials that include a DVD edition of “The Civil War,” the award-winning documentary by Ken Burns, posters, bookmarks and access to online planning and promotional materials.

The We the People Bookshelf Collection is now on display in the Cor Jesu Library.

Cor Jesu Academy Library

The Sr. Theodore Bollati, ASCJ Library is an integral part of Cor Jesu Academy. Its mission is to support the curriculum by providing resources and reference, to assist with research and inquiry, and to encourage students to develop a lifelong pursuit of knowledge.

In 2008, the library was dedicated to honor Sister Theodore Bollati, in recognition of her exemplary service. Sister Theodore was the Librarian for 32 years, overseeing the design and building of the library’s current facility and developing the collection.

The library contains a quiet study area, a research and reference area, reading rooms, the Alumnae Room, and the CJTV studio. Its collection includes nearly 18,000 books, numerous periodicals and audio visual materials. The Alumnae Room houses the school archives.

Online databases currently provided are the OPAC, an online catalog, and four Proquest subscription databases.
